I mostly finished the floor in the spare (now rabbit) room. I talked to my father-in-law on Thanksgiving who told me how to lay half-round moulding and do butt-end joins (with a coping saw, to deal with irregularly shaped rooms). $110 in tools and supplies (only $20 of which was the prepainted moulding) later, I had everything I needed to finish the floor.

I did reasonably well for my first try, I think. With better tools and more practice, I probably could have done better. It took me over an hour to put together my first network cable, for instance, but now I can make them in under five minutes and still carry on a conversation, so practice counts for a lot.

I’ve hung up plastic drop cloths on the walls and under the rabbit cages to keep the spray and damage to a minimum. The closet doors are going to be stored in the basement, and I’ll put the bedroom door back on the frame after I move the big 30″x36″ cages into the room later this week.

I promise, I’ll think, read, and write about gaming and work on some of my projects just as soon as I have downtime (and get to stop thinking so hard about accounting software and processes at work). I could have spent less time playing WoW over my four-day break, but I hadn’t touched the game in a week or so, and really wanted to get stuff done.

The rescue rabbit was taken to one of Second Chance’s wildlife rehabilitators last night. After a few false starts and problems getting in touch with each other, we were able to get her address and figure out how to get there.

Here’s hoping that the bunny doesn’t get a nasty cat-bite infection, and enjoys his new life in the woods of northwestern Butler County.

Yesterday afternoon, the neighbor’s cat decided to kill a young, wild rabbit in our front yard. Being a big fan of rabbits, and having considered planting a garden just for the wild rabbits to graze, I was out the door and hissing at the cat within seconds. The rabbit, only lightly wounded at that point, ran to my mailbox post, and seeing me, decided that flight was the best option. Unfortunately, the neighbor’s cat, egged on by young neighborhood boys, noticed the streak of brown fur and attacked it under my car in the driveway.

The new cages from KW arrived today, straight from California by semi. I got to help unload the truck on the street in front of our house, while our neighbors decided that they needed to leave right now, and couldn’t wait a couple minutes for me to finish unloading. Well, they had to wait, but then the driver had to help me carry the boxes into the garage.

Assembly time: 9:30am to 4:30pm, with 45 minutes off for lunch, and about 30 minutes talking to my dad and coaching him through the changes he had to make to his OpenBSD firewall to work with the new static IP address he got when his DSL router had to be changed because he cancelled his second phone line and needed to move the DSL to the first.

(Choke on that, English teachers!)

I feel like I’ve been exercising all day, which is what my wife said I have been doing. Typing hurts. 😛

Time to remove the old run pens, clean the pig room, and place the new cages. Lucky pigs.

I didn’t end up putting up any more music files last night, or ripping any CDs. We travelled to lovely western Hamilton county to go pick up a cute lil’ red silky boar yesterday evening. Becky’s planning on breeding him to some new silky sows (when she gets them) and her red texels in the meantime. I don’t understand all the guinea pig genetics, but she assures me this is a good thing.

We got to the breeder’s house with any problems. Getting back, though, I managed to miss a turn. We drove an extra five or ten minutes, but made it back to I-74 and got on the entrance to the highway that we wanted. . . just from the other direction. The roads out there are like riding on a roller coaster, especially in the dark.

Please, please KW Cages: fulfill our order and ship it quickly! We’ve got pigs cohabitating all over the place, and we’re going to have even more unwanted backbreeding if we don’t get our new cavy holes soon.

We picked up Josie, our new Toy Fox Terrier, from the airport yesterday. She’s a tiny little thing, and was quite nervous to start. I think she’s beginning to recognize Becky, and is able to be a little more relaxed.

She slept through the night (although when she wants, she can be quite the whiner/barker). This morning, she was introduced to raw food–she’s not completely convinced it’s good stuff, but Oscar is!

We went to Pennsylvania (barely…our destination was only three miles outside Ohio) on Sunday to pick up some French Lops from Lucee.

Lucee is very nice, knows her rabbits, and between her and her mom, they’ve managed to breed and take care of some gorgeous bunnies.

I came away with a deep appreciation for the vision of the designer of I-76. Whoever it was must have read too much Lovecraft. Strange geometries indeed! I was surprised it didn’t zig-zag around individual homes in Akron.

Some people are morning people. They like to get up early, get a fresh start on the day, and accomplish everything before noon. I used to be a morning person–when I was younger, I assumed it had something to do with when you were born. I was born around sunrise, and therefore I must be a morning person. I never needed coffee or other stimulants to get started. Just give me a good breakfast and I was ready for the morning.
