Finding appropriate Free 2D or 2.5D art assets isn’t always the easiest thing to do.

I did come across a few useful links, one of the best being the list of free and low cost multimedia development applications at chaoticbox. Another useful, Mac-oriented set of resources (intended for use in Coldstone has lots of terrain–even if I can’t redistribute the images, they’ll be useful in building a mock client.

The biggest restriction I think I’ll run into will be licensing: I’m not planning to capitalize on someone else’s work, but I do want to be able to redistribute and, if necessary, modify the tileset to be more appropriate. I’m not fond of some of the Ultima 4/5 tilesets available–that may be because I didn’t play those games.

And, of course, I need to find or generate a set of good sprites.
